A playground for ocean entrepreneurs

A playground for ocean entrepreneurs to unleash creativity and innovation: aquaculture.
Aquaculture could be the biggest investment opportunity in sustainable food over the next 25 years, with the potential to create up to 22 million jobs globally by 2050.
That’s the headline finding from a recent report published by The World Bank Group, and it was reinforced in my recent conversation with Kira Smiley (Tidal) on The Ocean Age podcast.
Why should ocean entrepreneurs focus on aquaculture?
☑️ Solves a huge problem: addressing global food demand and protein need. Wild fisheries are already maxed out. Aquaculture fills that gap.
☑️ Growing, and resilient: for decades, aquaculture has been the fastest-growing food production sector in the world. It has weathered crises and kept expanding.
☑️ Thirsty for innovation: there are plenty of challenges, but aquaculture is buzzing with new solutions. Startups can play a vital role in scaling these technologies responsibly.
☑️ Can make a real positive impact (if done properly): fish farming is among the most sustainable animal protein sources. Shellfish and seaweed farming can be even regenerative.
Ocean startups won’t struggle to find worthy problems to tackle and interesting opportunities for improvement.
Here’s one: communication.
Aquaculture still faces stigma and opposition, partially based on outdated perceptions that lag behind the progress that’s been made.
The winners will be those who can overcome this, through effective communication and transparency – telling the story of what’s actually going on and offering a new narrative.
For a great example, check out James Sibley’s latest video “Why Do We Need To Farm Salmon?”.

You’ll learn a simple 5-step process to consistently attract customers who “get it” and are excited about what you have to offer.
There will also be a Q&A at the end, if you want to ask me any specific questions.
